On September 26, 2014, 43 male students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers' College went missing in Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico. Details of what happened remain unclear, but the official investigation concluded that once the students were in custody, they were handed over to the local Guerreros Unidos ("United Warriors") crime syndicate and presumably killed. Mexican authorities claimed Iguala's mayor, José Luis Abarca Velázquez, and his wife María de los Ángeles Pineda Villa, masterminded the abduction. However, there are also reports linking Federal forces to the case, some stating that military personnel in the area deliberately omitted helping the students in distress.Others state a direct involvement of the Mexican Army in the kidnapping and murder of the students.

"Cuarenta y Tres (43)" is a video performative piece protesting the murder of the students and a protest of the Mexican government and police's corruption.
